The d.school project fellowship applications are now open!
Applications are now closed.
The d.school Project Fellowship is a program for human-scale exploration and experimentation now to create systems change in the future. We’re now accepting applications for the 2016-17 cohort. We have two areas of focus this year for project fellows: Civic Innovation and K-12 Education Innovation. If you’re dedicated to improving either of these areas, read on!
WHAT IS THE PROJECT FELLOWSHIP?
The Project Fellowship’s mission is to expedite and deepen user and system's-level insights, and activate experimentation that leads to innovations addressing society’s most pressing needs. Not to be confused with our Teaching Fellowship, this hands-on, project-based program is intended to help accelerate creative leaders and their work. Our goal is to match your passion and expertise with a design approach to innovation. Selected fellows will receive a stipend and benefits during the 7-month fellowship. The program requires you to be based full-time at Stanford for four months. Following that period, you may work remotely for the next three months, with 2-3 scheduled trips to Stanford during this latter phase of the fellowship.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We’re interested in how you’re improving the lives of people in society, how you are building more effective and dynamic communities and how you are innovating in the way children learn. Practitioners of civic innovation are not limited to policymakers or technologists; education innovators are not limited to teachers or school leaders. Applicants in both areas could include organizers, nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, business leaders and more.
An ideal candidate will have a weathered and deep engagement with the problem they are trying to tackle; a complex understanding of the problem’s root causes and the landscape of relevant actors and stakeholders; an increasing belief that there is a different way to tackle the problem; and an incessant desire to experiment with alternative approaches. The d.school fellows are high-performers with an instinct for the edge, self-starters with an impulse for change and the savvy to make it real. To learn more about the types of people we’re looking for, read about our current cohort. You can also check out our K12 Lab Network. We are not seeking applicants outside of the education and civic innovation spaces at this time.
CAN I KEEP MY CURRENT JOB DURING THE FELLOWSHIP?
Depending on the partner organization, in some cases fellows may stay on that organization’s payroll and work closely with colleagues on their fellowship project. However, fellowship is a full-time commitment; fellows must not have responsibilities to another job during the fellowship. The program also requires full-time residency at Stanford for the first four months of the fellowship.
