Update: We have the recap of this week's #dchat with Melissa Pelochino on her d.school fellowship project, #2minPD! Thanks to everyone who joined in. https://twitter.com/emikolawole/status/459495358914371584
Original Post: How do you change the way teachers are taught to teach? Melissa Pelochino, veteran teacher and d.school fellow, is wrestling with this question. In an effort to redesign teacher professional development, she is creating a short-form video series called #2minPD, which stands for "two-minute professional development". That's why Melissa is hosting #dchat tomorrow (Tuesday) night, Tuesday, from 6-7pm PT.
Here are two recent examples:
The project is developing into a movement to transform teachers' professional development into a collaborative process -- one that is short-form, impactful and community-building. Currently, the process of professional development is a difficult and all too often isolating one for teachers strapped for both time and resources.
The #2minPD project involves teachers from around the world creating two-minute videos to convey a point of learning or discovery in their professional development. The videos are currently being posted on YouTube featuring the hashtag #2minPD. But there are some open questions as to what the future of #2minPD is (it's largely dependent on the participants), what it can be, how it was created and what it could mean for innovation in teaching.
This is your opportunity to ask Melissa not only about her project, but her process and what it took to go from one framework for professional development to another. If you have questions in advance please tweet them using the hashtag #dchat or #2minPD. We will be following both during this week's chat session.
